About Us
Our Team
The Jesuit Robotics team was established in 2003 as a competitive, extra-curricular team. Since its formation, Jesuit Robotics has faced off against college level teams and held its own.
While it started with land-based ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles), Jesuit Robotics later moved on to the underwater competitions MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) and NURC (National Underwater Robotics Challenge), where it experienced increased success. The realm of underwater robotics brought a whole new set of challenges, requiring more creaive thinking, modern technology, and new skills. Recently, awareness for underwater robotics has increased following the oil spill disaster in the Gulf, making it increasingly important to explore the possibilities in underwater engineering. In recent years, Jesuit High School placed first in a college level competition.
The team is organized with a student heirarchy, divided into various departments, each with its own respective head. The departments are technical writing, CADD (Computer Aided Design and Development), electronics and programming, build team, website, publicity, and mission operations. Above the department heads is the team captain, a student (typically a senior) who moderates the departments and mediates weekly meetings. Adult supervision is necessary, so a select few qualified adults assist the team in projects. Jesuit Robotics has a complete, state-of-the-art machine shop, complete with: lathe, mill, and a myriad of other machine tools.
Our School
Jesuit High School is a fully-accredited, independent, college preparatory, Jesuit, Catholic, private high school that serves the greater Sacramento area by continuing the long tradition of Jesuit education aimed at educating the whole person – mind, body and spirit.
With parents as partners, Jesuit offers a challenging educational experience of academic excellence, co-curricular involvement, and spiritual and religious formation. At Jesuit, opportunities abound for a student to explore his interests and develop his talents. It’s a place where students say they are known and cared for by our committed faculty and by their fellow students. In addition to the dedicated lay men and women on the faculty and staff, the students also benefit from the presence on campus of 14 Jesuit priests and seminarians. For all, education is more than a vocation. It is a mission.
